Title: Newspaper crumbling
Published: Cagle.com
Date: Feb. 26, 2009
About this cartoon: The newspaper industry faces one crisis after another as advertising and readership decline, leading papers to make more and more cuts in the product and staff, leading to newspapers beoming less compelling to read, leading to further declines in advertising and readership, and so on. The Rocky Mountain News in Denver is going out of business just shy of its 150th birthday, the Seattle Post-intelligencer is set to end publication (save perhaps for a thin online product) soon, and other papers are losing millions of dollars, are in bankruptcy or are in danger of being closed. Incredible, and incredibly sad, to see such a major national institution so deeply endangered.
