About this cartoon: The world's leading car maker, Toyota, saw its stellar repuation for quality take a nosedive amid reports of sudden acceleration (with some fatalities), brakes slow to respond and other problems, with new complaints and recalls happening daily. Toyota blamed the acceleration on "sticky" gas pedals or on incorrect floor mats, but the extensive, complicated electronics that control most aspects of cars today are a much more difficult problem to diagnose and to fix.
