About this cartoon: With Sacramento Republicans lock-step rejecting Governor Jerry Brown's efforts to deal with the state's enormous deficit by calling a special election to let voters decide if they should extend some expiring taxes, the resulting alternatives — massive cuts to everything, including safety-net social services— will hurt all Californians and probably kill some of the most vulnerable ones.
