About this cartoon: 2004 marked the 350th anniversary of Jewish community in the United States, when 23 Sephardic Jews fleeing Brazil and the Inquisition landed in New Amsterdam.
Noteworthy: Intended for the Jewish Journal of Greater Los Angeles, they held off on using this in favor of my redrawing it as a color cover. That cover was bumped in favor of an election story, so the variation of this drawing ran instead as an inside black-and-white illustration to accompany an article. Thus, my previous Jewish paper in San Francisco ran the intended cartoon that never ran in L.A. in this form.
