About this cartoon: Ariel Sharon was determined to have a unilateral withdrawal from Israeli settlements in Gaza, based on Gaza's lack of biblical importance, the no-win situation of occupation and a realization that a smaller Israel would be more of a Jewish -- and democratic -- state than a "Greater Israel." Settlers in Gaza took a far different view, and threatened to overturn the Sahron government, as well as take the inititative of arming and defending their settlements themselves. Despite the risk of a civil war, Sharon pressed on with what he believed to be the correct path. I agree with him on this.
