About this cartoon: Ventura County, California had a long-time "red state" leaning (Republican plurality), but the registration numbers kept getting closer, and in 2008 a combination of a surge in new Democratic registrations (thanks to the George W, Bush influence) and GOP defections finally pushed the county into the "blue" column.
