Title: Bottom line
Published: VCReporter
Date: Feb. 12, 2009
About this cartoon: Jobs have been eliminated at an astonishing rate, with nearly 600,000 Americans laid off in January alone and about 3 1/2 million since December 2007. Companies are whacking 5,000 workers at a time to help "the bottom line"... but every one of those layoffs is a human story, a new family stress, and a personal crisis.
Noteable: I struggled awhile to come up with a cartoon on this, having been laid off in November and still feeling the effects. I wanted to depict the human-versus-accounting aspect of layoffs, and show this as something more than unemployment lines or a"will work for food" panhandler cliché.
