About this cartoon: Independent bookstores have been squeezed for some time by mega-stores like Barnes & Noble and Borders and by online mega-retailers like Amazon.com. With the advent of new digital reader tablets line the iPad and the Kindle, it doesn't make it any better for the smaller bookstores.
