about this cartoon: | Title:
Campaign finance reform Published: Marin Independent Journal Date: Oct. 27, 2000 About this cartoon: State voters showed that they aren't paying much attention to what some propositions are about. This Fall 2000 ballot proposition for spending limits may have sounded good, but it actually was written by state politicians who found the spending limits in a previously-passed measure to be too tight for their tastes, and this measure overrode the earlier one. So, state voters hoping to improve campaign finance reform foolishly passed a measure that weakened a better one already in place. Noteworthy: This measure was opposed by almost all newspapers, including the Marin IJ. Didn't matter, it seems. |
