About this cartoon: An old battle resurfaced: Should offshore oil-drilling sites be kept, expanded, developed or terminated? The pro-petroleum Bush Administration had no political interest in removing the leases from often-hostile California as it had done for friendlier Florida, and oil companies were interested in either exploiting the existing leases or being paid handsomely to mothball them.
Noteworthy: I had just returned from a brief getaway along the Central California coast, and used my fresh mental images of the shore to help develop this cartoon.
