About this cartoon: In an odd twist, which indicates how politicized the Environmental Protection Agency has become, California -- led by a Republican governor -- is being rebuffed by the supposed national environmental watchdog for wanting to impose stricter emissions standards on vehicles. The EPA thus far has refused to grant a waiver to federal standards, even though California's proposed standards would mean cleaner air and fewer emissions of greenhouse gases, things one might suppose the EPA would be all about.
