about this cartoon: | Title:
Illegals Published: California Journal Date: 1994 About this cartoon: Illegal aliens pouring across the border from Mexico became a hot issue in the 1994 campaign, and Pete Wilson was able to maneuver the issue well enough to become governor, although it would later taint him and his party as being somewhat racist. Noteworthy: A classic example of the "misdirection" form of an editorial cartoon, setting up expectations that it was leading one way, then becoming something else. |
