about this cartoon: | Title:
Copyrights Published: Ventura County Star Date: Jan. 19, 2003 About this cartoon: Certain media companies were lobbying Congress hard for another extension of their copyrights, which looks like will be the case. Such classics as "Casablanca," "The Wizard of Oz" and early Disney animations were at risk of going into the public domain, and this cartoon was an attempt to show the potential misuse they faced if that happened. That hasn't stopped a lot of such misuse that already is happening thanks to digital wizardry, but this at least prevents some of it. Noteworthy: Lots of fun cartoon to draw this, though not without some nervousness that the notorious Disney lawyers might harrass me for the use of their character (though it is a legitimate editorial usage). |
