about this cartoon: | Title:
Mauldin and Hirschfeld Published: Ventura County Star Date: Jan. 24, 2003 About this cartoon: Two absolute giants of 20th Century American cartooning died within 3 days of each other. Bill Mauldin's World War II cartoons made him the best wartime cartoonist ever, then he became one of the best editorial cartoonists around, winning a Pulitzer prize for each of these. Al Hirschfeld was the top entertainment caricaturist of all time, working amazingly since the 1920s up to his death at age 99. Noteworthy: While I like the visual image, I feel a bit bad about this cartoon being a dual tribute due to time constraints -- it doesn't give either man his individual due. |
