About this cartoon: The founder of Mad magazine might not have
been well known to the public, but his creation influenced generations
of young people, including myself.
Noteworthy: This cartoon sort of led to my becoming a Mad contributor.
I'd had contact with Mad a few years earlier, was told they were seeking
writers, not cartoonists, and I gave up quickly, not considering myself
a writer, After this cartoon came out, I mailed it to their office with
a note saying "you probably don't remember me" and got a reply
of "sure we do, and please try writing for us again." i submitted
several proposals, they bought one and asked me to draw it too, and I
began a modest series of contributions to the magazine as a writer and
cartoonist.
