Title: Reagan obituary
Published: Ventura County Star
Date: June 8, 2004
About this cartoon: Former president Ronald Reagan dies at 93, after a decade-long decline from Alzheimer's Disease. The public outpouring of grief and admiration was amazing, perhaps the most since JFK, and nowhere more so than in Ventura County, home of his presidential library and now his burial site. I felt a bit mixed doing a tribute cartoon, since I had cartooned him harshly during his entire presidency and was no great admirer. But given the sentiment of the time and the place, and perhaps with a little more perspective over time, it was appropriate to do a positive cartoon that noted his greatest achievements on the world stage.
Noteworthy: This cartoon was reprinted in USA Today, the nation's largest newspaper, my first time in there.
