about this cartoon: | Title:
Bush and Reagan's legacy Published: Ventura County Star Date: Oct. 1, 2002 About this cartoon: An news story noted that Dubya was trying to be friendly with former First Lady Nancy Reagan, and that Nancy had to hide her displeasure with Bush's staunch opposition to stem-cell research. Such research may hold one of the few rays of hope for treating Alzheimer's disease, which has robbed her husband of his memory and ability to interact with others and will eventually kill him. So it seemed to me that Dubya was willing to embrace Reagan's legacy, but wasn't particularly concerned with Reagan, the man. Noteworthy: I was a bit worried that I'd get "how dare you draw the ailing Ronald Reagan" mail, but got none. I was pretty pleased with the caricatures here, especially the vigorous Reagan of the 1980s and the barely-hanging-on Reagan of today., as well as a pretty good Nancy. |
