about this cartoon: | Title:
To arms against smoke Published: Marin Independent Journal Date: Sept. 18, 2001 About this cartoon: Following the 9/11/01 terrorist attack on the U.S., the nation rose up in fury, ready to smite the attackers. But who they were was not entirely certain, and where they were was less so. The problem of fighting loose-knit cells of terrorists in small bands in scattered places who could easily vanish into the countrysides or cities was unfamiliar to a nation used to battling conventional enemy armies. Noteworthy: I don't always like my portrayals of Uncle Sam, but I think the artwork on this one was particularly good. |
