More about this cartoon:
Title: The GWinch
Published:
Date: drawn Dec.14, 2000
About this cartoon: The outrageous Election of 2000 ended with a highly partisan 5-4 ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court to halt all recounts of disputed Florida ballots, disenfranchising thousands of voters and effectively giving George W. Bush the presidency.
Noteworthy: The Marin Independent Journal chose not to use this, as both Bush and Al Gore were making very concilliatory speeches and the paper wanted to continue in the spirit of healing and moving on. I can understand everyone's weariness with the Election That Wouldn't End, but I think this is a good and apt cartoon for an election that may well have been handed to the candidate who lost in Florida.
