About this cartoon: An ambitious effort to count all the homeless people in Ventura County -- among other places -- came up with a tally of nearly 2,000. Considering neighboring Los Angeles County has perhaps ten times that -- and that's only a tiny fraction of the U.S. -- the extent of the homeless problem is enormous, appalling and a black mark against a supposed superpower.
