about this cartoon: | Title:
The long shot Published: Daily News of Los Angeles Date: Nov. 3, 1982 About this cartoon: The small type on the basketball reads "sports without education." The cartoon addresses the over-emphasis on "striking it rich" in sports that some youths, most distrssingly those in inner cities, rely on instead of working towards academic success. Noteworthy: A very well-received cartoon, especially among educators. A challenge here was to draw a racially- and ethnically-neutral kid, and I think this one works pretty well. |
