About this cartoon: President Bush has made reforming Social Security a priority, with a steady drumbeat of shrill warnings that the system is facing imminent bankruptcy. The cornerstone of his plan is to privatize a portion of the money in the system. Separately from this was a story in the Star about how fewer and fewer companies are funding their pension plans, both new plans and existing plans, due to the costs, with more and more employees facing the prospect of fending for themselves.The timing of the two stories has worrisome iimplications for many workers.
