Title: GOP dark alley
Published: Ventura County Reporter
Date: Aug. 30, 2012
About this cartoon: The 2012 Republican National Convention, like
all such gatherings, has an official party platform that is little noticed.
Not this year. Todd Akin, a candidaye for the Senate from Missouri, caused
a firestorm by saying that women could not get pregnant from a "legitimate
rape" beacuse the female body had some way of preventing comnception
in such cases, he said. He also went on the declare his opposition to
abortion in cases of rape... and incest... and everything else, all of
which caused people to become aware that the Republican party platform
contained the very same concepts regarding abortion. This played into
the hands of Democrats who were accusing the GOP, with some effect, of
a "war on women."
