about this cartoon: | Title:
The Breed Street Shul Published: Jewish Journal of Greater Los Angeles Date: Sept. 10, 2004 About this cartoon: This was a cartoon local to Los Angeles, about its oldest shul, Talmud Torah, commonly called the Breed Street Shul. Efforts are underway to restore the closed, damaged and graffiti-ridden grand structure. But the Jewish community has long since vanished from the area, Boyle Heights, which is now mostly Hispanic. The plan is to have the restored structure serve as a museum and neighborhood cultural center, with perhaps the occasional Jewish special event if anyone can be persuaded to come to the area. |
