about this cartoon: | Title:
Israel's security fence Published: Jewish Journal of Greater Los Angeles Date: Jan. 2, 2004 About this cartoon: The Sharon government has been pressing ahead with its barbed-wire-and-trenches high-security border fence along the Palestinian borders, which has been drawing worldwide condemnation, partly for its unfortunate reminder of the Berlin Wall, and largely because the borders Israel is fencing haven't necessarily been agreed to by any other parties and may not be the borders of a negotiated eventual Palestinian state. Noteworthy: The truth is that many in the U.S. would welcome just such a fence here, but few would express that aloud. Israel's security needs are more dire, and its indifference to world opinion is more acute. |
