Title: Pope Pius
Published: Jewish Journal of Greater Los Angeles
Date: Feb.5, 2010
About this cartoon: A controversy that has raged for decades: did the wartime pope, Pope Pius XII, do as much as he could have to stand up to the Nazis and try to lessen or prevent the Holocaust? Many believe that while he did save some Jews, overall he did not oppose the Nazi regime vigorously nor use his considerable power to do much to aid the Jews; some even believe he was sympathetic to the Nazi goal of eliminating all Jews.
