About this cartoon: (give it a few seconds to start) The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors moved forward with a plan to ask the University of California to partner in a reopened Martin Luther KIng Jr. Medical Center. The hospital, formerly called King-Drew and then King-Harbor, was shut (except for some outpatient services) in 2006 following years of being cited for substandard care, culminating in a notorious incident where a woman lay writhing — and dying — on a floor for 45 minutes as hospital personnel ignored her and a janitor mopped up around her.
